Connie awaits our booking to be found (after 20 minutes) at the reception desk of the fabulous Waldorf-Astoria. They still refer to the luggage guys as "bellmen" and shout "FRONT!" to summon one to handle your bags.
- WA_lobby.jpg
The Waldorf-Astoria lobby really is something to behold, including the 8-ton clock in the middle.
- WA_lobby_frieze.jpg
It has "friezes" around the top of the walls at the ceiling, just like the Parthenon (before the British took them all.)
- WA_room.jpg
Our room wasn't large, but indeed luxurious...

...right down to the marble bathroom.

Connie in Times Square

My grandmother noted, while panning a play, that she "enjoyed most of the electric signs on Broadway" - back when that meant your name spelled out in light bulbs
- times2.jpg
Now, the electric signs are almost all full-blown video screens that show anything, in motion, all the time.

We had a wonderful stroll through Central Park the next morning before we checked out, dodging around the huge "Race for the Cure" marathon.
- WC_brunch.jpg
We also did a great breakfast at a Lexington Av. restaurant, avoiding the dauntingly heavy "brunch" (a mere $93 each) at the Waldorf.
- ESB_fog.jpg
My one great photo of NYC this visit: the Empire State Building half-hidden in the fog and drizzle that ruled the day.

The QM2 arrived late and set all schedules off; new passengers arrived while old ones were still leaving. Such a mess that they bussed us to Times Square and back to get us out of the way until 8PM for a late departure.
