Lego Models

Here are a few of my recent Lego models for you to appreciate. Unfortunately most of my better models are lost to time as I did not photograph them.

I may at some point provide instruction sheets for building some of these. First I have to learn how to produce the instructions.

Most of the images on these Lego pages are linked to higher-resolution versions.

Ogel Amphibious Transport

I bought a bunch of the Ogel Mutant Squid sets because I had several uses in mind for the tentacles, and this is one of them - an amphibious transport platform.

Elevated Landing Pad

This idea has been percolating in the back of my mind for a couple of decades. Seeing how some other people approached the idea at BrickShelf, I finally decided to attack it my own way. This is an elevated spacecraft landing pad with a control room underneath.

Robot Arm v.1

A project that just sort of spontaneously happened while I was avoiding work. It was originally intended to be something else entirely, but quickly evolved into this four-axis robot arm. I learned a lot from doing it.

Robot Arm v.2

The second version of the robot arm. This one had five axes of motion, a much improved gripper and is powered by a single electric motor. I learned even more from tackling this project but am done with making robot arms for now.

Super Galaxy Explorer

LL 928, the Galaxy Explorer, is my all-time favorite Lego set but I always wished for more of it. Here's my first attempt at building a bigger, improved version of this spacecraft.

Imperial Star Destroyer

I bought the ISD set from Lego Shop-at-Home for my 2004 birthday. Here's a chronicle of the long assembly process. It's a great set. Buy it.

Miscellaneous

Recon Drones

Flying robots in three sizes. All but the smallest one have wings that fold upwards for more compact storage. Not sure where I got the idea for these but the small one bears a passing resemblance to Lazerbeak from the old Transformers cartoon.

Unfinished Spacecraft

I had this great idea for a spaceship cockpit using the large UFO window quarter-circles. I even bought the pieces from BrickLink because I was so hot to try it out. I like the result, but I couldn't decide how to finish the rest of the ship. I was caught between making it a Klingon-style design, something like the Event Horizon, or a cargo hauler like the space trucks from Cowboy Bebop. I'll probably come back to this one later.
