Welcome to the Foo home page. Foo is a variable that may one day contain the umbrella name for my hobby projects.
I am Soleil Lapierre, nerd at large. Video and computer games are my main interest. My educational background is in electronics and computing science. I got interested in these subjects in the early 1980s. The first video game I played was City Connection. My first home game system was the Atari 2600, and my first programmable system was the Commodore VIC-20.
Here you'll find information about me, my resources, and some of the projects I've released for public consumption.
At Foo, our aim is to provide high-quality products at a reasonable price.
We believe that the software market has grown too tolerant of sloppy, inefficient and bloated code. The consumer software industry is relying on hardware improvements to compensate for their shoddy coding practices, and we've had enough of it. Whatever platform we code for, you can be sure we'll make an effort to use the best tools and produce the smallest, fastest programs possible without sacrificing reliability.
We also believe that today's computer gaming industry places too much emphasis on flashy production values and not enough on playability and replayability. It's OK for a game to look like a movie, but that must always take second place to making it a fun game to play.
Foo currently only employs me, Soleil Lapierre. There are future plans to include one or more members of The Nerd Hive, though.
Submissions of artwork, sound effects and music are welcome, but since I currently can't afford to pay artists or musicians (or even programmers), such submissions must be unconditional and free.
