Labrador

A photo of a Labrador

Used to collect fish that fell out of the nets, they would also retrieve waterfowl. One of the most popular of all dog breeds. These strong, active dogs are loyal and devoted companions. A well bred lab is non aggressive, friendly and even tempered.

Like golden retrievers, labs are popular as guide dogs, assistance dogs and search and rescue dogs. A number have also been trained as sniffers for bombs and drugs. Their ability to work long hours and eagerness to please makes them excel at any of these jobs.

As a working dog, they need lots of daily exercise and activity to keep them occupied. Otherwise they may become aggressive.
