Introduction

Congratulations!
You have just stumbled on the home page of a great game. This is, of course, Galactic Control, a fun and intriguing Role-Playing Game, that was designed to be played over email. Originally thought up by Jon Chapman, it was fully realized in the summer of 1995. Since then, it has undergone many changes, some subtle, some extreme, and is constantly evolving.

Set in the suitably far future, in a distant universe, your race has been driven from your home star system to some foreign, unpopulated galaxy. (Un)fortunately, other races have come here too. Now, as your race's leader, it is up to you to ensure that your race will survive. How will you do it? Displaying diplomacy and building alliances? Or through waging wars, crushing any who oppose? Or perhaps the subtle approach, researching new technologies and exploiting it? The decision is yours.

As a point of interest, some major changes to the rules include: the elimination of 'Combat Fuel' (remember that, anyone?); adoption of a Load-based system for items, ships, and starbases; new classes of ships and starbases; new weaponry and defenses; decryption of encryption codes; and much more!

So, join in on the fun! Be a part of the Galactic Control evolution!

News and Updates

2001/01/27 - Another long time since this was last updated! Unfortunately, this will be the last update as I've given up (at least for now) on the webmastering stuff mostly due to lack of time, but also partly due to there being another webmaster willing to take on the role. That and we now have a domain name! So come on over to www.galcon.ca to keep up to date on Galactic Control happenings! These pages will stay up for archival purposes, if you ever want to look back on this stuff.. :) Thanks all for the ride, it's been a blast!

2000/09/04 - A new game is starting! I'll be running it, so if you are interested in playing, take a look at the rules and send me an email with the following information:
- Your first and last names
- The email address you will be playing from
- Your racename

2000/08/06 - Even though this is now old-ish news, apologies go to those of you keeping tabs on this web site.. But Galactic Control is alive and well! Sean Monner is currently running a 'beta game' to test his new Game Controller software.. Learn more about it by taking a look at his site on the left or from here.

In case you were wondering, I (Ben) have had to place my next game (0502) on hold for the time being.. Funny how life has a habit of catching up with you.. I swear I'll finish the rules one of these days.. I'm also eagerly waiting to hear the results of Sean's beta test..

Also new is a message board set up at Gamers.com, which you can visit from here.

Rules to the Game

Below is a list of all the rules since the game's inception. For convenience, I've numbered them, but they're more often referred to by the particular game that was played...

-------------------------------
How to Play

Here is a list of the current game controllers. If you want to join a game, simply email the GC in question and wait for a reply. You will be be notified when the game will start once all the spots for that game are filled. Of course, you will also be notified if a game is full and will be added to a waiting list for the next game. Remember, you can't join a game in progress, but you can ask to be in the next game a GC runs.

-------------------------------
Game Aids

This game was originally pencil-and-paper based and was consequently a nightmare for the Game Controllers (GCs) and Players (though to a lesser degree).

So, now there is a program (designed for Windows 95 or Windows NT) developed by Sean Monner and Essam Metwally that handles the Game Controller side of things. If you think you might be interested in running a game, contact Sean for more information.

Due to popular demand and similarity to the GC's program, there is now a Players' Front End being developed so that the players can now have the same ease of use and tracking of galaxies as the Game Controllers. There is a beta version available for testing now, so contact Sean about that. This program is being developed by Sean Monner, Essam Metwally, and John Brimacombe.
